It is helpful to identify giftedness at an early school age because it sets the tone for your child’s education and the expectations of teachers who will guide their education. In situations that warrant a more comprehensive assessment, we are committed to helping you identify your child’s full range of needs and maximize their strengths in order to set them on a path toward success. They can sometimes underachieve academically for many different reasons such as boredom in class, holding perfectionistic standards, or fear of failing excessively high standards and persistent upsetting emotions can interfere with school performance. Gifted children need guidance, support, and intervention. Psychological testing for giftedness is an objective and standardized way to determine whether a child can be identified as gifted. The WISC-V is considered an accurate and comprehensive test of cognitive ability. Gifted testing includes a file review (e.g., report cards), clinical interview with the child and his/her parent(s), and the administration of a standardized intelligence test such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fifth Edition (WISC-V). In some situations, when there is concern about a Learning Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or emotional difficulties that may be hindering your child’s academic progress, we can complete more in-depth psychoeducational testing to clarify and make recommendations about their full scope of needs as well as provide information to support an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
